The Fibres of love

I am all about the personal touch and my wedding day was no exception. Weddings can be a stressful time and as I find crochet relaxes me it was the perfect route to go down. I decided that I wanted little pieces of myself everywhere throughout the day.

I made some items which were evident in the ceremony and reception, so there is a little of my personality throughout the day.

Firstly I made the ring pillow for our daughter to carry the rings up the church.

I also made some crochet flowers to go in her headpiece which was made with baby's breath and ribbon by Flowers by Josephine. Josephine Higginbotham was so accommodating and helped with my creative buzz, she advised me to make some flowers to go in the groom and best men's button holes. The attention to detail was fabulous on the day. If you want to see more of Josephine's work please check her out at: Wedding Flowers by Josephine

I covered a jar and pen for the signing of the register to have it all personalised with my crafty theme.

My pride and joy on the day was my bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets. They took several weeks to make, but it was worth every painstaking minute to have it in my hand as I walked up the aisle. I made them multicoloured for maximum impact. My own bouquet was larger and had a silver handle, the bridemaid's were smaller and I wrapped their handles in lace and decorated with a pearl brooch to match the detail on my dress and shoes.

In the hotel, the table numbers were jars which I had crocheted covers for, I choose an ivory colour similar to my dress and it has a sparkly thread running through it. Each one was tied with string and a wooden heart. Each heart had a hand written number and a pearl detail attached.

Bombing it

I have most definitely passed my love of all things wool and outdoors onto my daughter Isobel. This evening we were "bombing it" aka yarnbombing our tepee.

I used 10 6ft bamboo canes and some left over balls of wool. I pressed them into the ground to make sure they keep the shape and tied them at the top with wool to keep secure.  I also used a smaller stock to make the doorway shape and to mark where Isobel wasn't to pull the wool through.

Then I let imagination and Isobel free and the result is super.  The possibilities are endless, we could leave it as is, we could cover with an old curtain and turn it into a shelter or perhaps plant some peas or nasturtiums to grow up along our weave.

So for less than five euro we built a home and had a few hours fun.
